Whitetail Golf Resort first opened for play in 2001. The course was designed by Rick Robbins.
The golf course has multiple tees and markers making it accommodating to all handicap levels. Whitetail offers a variety of shot-making opportunities. Whitetail is a rolling links style course, mixed with the precipitous terrain associated with the surrounding mountain area.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,950 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,234 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 9, a par-5 that plays to 546 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 14, a par-3 that plays to 150 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 9, a 546 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Whitetail Golf Resort is # 14, a 150 yard par-3.

Overall a great layout. The fairways and greens where in good shape. Pace of play a little slow.

Took my high school golf team here to play Mercersburg Academy. Very nice course, some very attractive holes, great condition for late October, club house smelled brand new (opened in Spring 2011), if it weren't so far for me (150 miles), I would gladly play this course and play it often. Mercersburg Academy is lucky to have such a beautiful and challenging home course!

Our group of travelling seniors (from as fas east as Baltimore, about 75 miles) played here 5-3-11, for a mere $20 with the Tee Time Book, which is a SUPER deal for this gem. Layout is in a fairly remote valley southwest of Mercersburg, about a mile north of the Whitetail Ski Resort.
No residences visible from anywhere on the course...what a nice plus that is! Layout is not overly tricky, takes full advantage of the significant terrain features, and is more than scenic: on some holes, it is just breathtaking. There are a few holes with sneaky features, especially on the back nine, where there is waste area at fairway breaks: for first-timers, I recommend a ride up the cart path to assess what's ahead. This is especially important on #16 and #17 - you've been warned! The architect also used some deceptive looks to challenge the unwary: the view from the #2 tee box can be very intimidating, but there is a lot more landing area than would initially appear. All in all, a very nice layout.
Conditions on this early May day were superior: tee boxes were level, and well-grassed, with no bare spots. Fairways were in great shape: I can't recall a single bare patch. Rough was thick, and pretty juicy in some areas, and suitably discouraging...it is rough, after all. Greens, which are fairly large, were very good. No signs of aeration, so they putted true, but were a little slower than they appeared. Bunkers were generally in good shape, but there are not all that many of them on the course, and they're fairly easily avoided.
The staff was very positive and welcoming. The clubhouse is new this year, and is quite nice, although modestly sized, and the pro shop is well-stocked. Overall, our group really likes this course: we just wish the commute were a little shorter.
We highly recommend.

I hate to rate this course, but it should have it's just do, now I probably won't be able to get a tee time.
If you don't play this course, you are missing out on a treat, the scenery as well as the course layout is well worth your time. I travel 25 to 30 miles each time I play this course, (there are at least 6 to 8 others that I drive past enroute to Whitetail).
So there I rated it and NO I don't work there or have stock in it, wish I had. It's a must play, plain and simple.

Great value and exceptionally well maintained. Tough for novice.
